We're not a magazine and camo company that added seed. We're an ag seed company that evolved into food plots, and we know this industry, the good and the bad.
Where This Started.
Buck Forage was built on a simple premise: the seed in your bag should be the best available option for producing forage that deer prefer and return to. That sounds obvious, but most food plot seed on the market does not meet that standard.
Since the 1980s, we have been working to find and select the varieties that do. That means running forage preference trials, testing varieties under real field conditions, partnering with researchers who specialize in white-tailed deer and forage science, and being willing to throw out anything that does not make the cut.
Nearly 2 million bags of oats sold later, the process hasn't changed. We spend year after year testing for the best variety to produce the most preferred forage, because the land and the deer deserve better than a catalog pick.
Research That
Holds Up.
Buck Forage has worked with Dr. James Kroll, known in the hunting and land management world as Dr. Deer, for decades. Dr. Kroll's involvement goes beyond a name on a label. He has been a central part of the selection and field-testing process for Buck Forage Oats, helping to identify the varieties that white-tailed deer actually prefer in natural forage settings.
Our research partnership with LSU Ag-Center keeps that work current. We fund ongoing studies testing 50 or more oat varieties each year. The winner earns the right to be called Buck Forage Oats. Everything else gets set aside.
The chicory and clover in our Nutrition Plot program come from the same research-driven process. The varieties are selected for real forage performance, not marketing appeal.
