Planted it with oats and clover three seasons ago and it is still producing. High protein, deer love it, and I am not replanting every year.

Buck Forage Chicory is the variety identified by Dr. James Kroll ("Dr. Deer") as preferred by white-tailed deer. A perennial (up to 5 seasons) herbaceous plant from the daisy family, packed with protein (up to 30%) plus other nutrients critical to healthy wildlife. Highly palatable and easily digestible. Its unusually long tap root reaches deep for soil moisture during dry periods, making it ideal for drought tolerance in sandier soils or drier regions. A durable, cold-hardy companion to clover or Buck Forage Oats, great for frost seeding and both warm and cool season plots. Details: Product type: Bag. Serves 1/2 to 1 acre in combination with Oats and Clover. How to plant: Broadcast, Roll, Drag. When to sow: South – Fall, North – Fall or Spring.

Buck Forage Chicory is not a generic chicory variety pulled from a seed catalog. It is the specific variety that came out of Dr. James Kroll's evaluation of chicory for white-tailed deer food plot use. Dr. Kroll's ongoing work through LSU Ag-Center continues to inform Buck Forage's seed selection, and chicory remains a central part of the Nutrition Plot program because the research supports it.
See the ResearchChicory works well on its own, but it performs best as part of a broader food plot strategy. Plant it alongside Buck Forage Clover for a warm-season nutrition plot, or combine with Buck Forage Oats for a plot that delivers forage from fall through the following summer.
For fall combination planting: disk or drill oats first, then broadcast spread and roll chicory and clover over the top. This layered approach helps each variety establish properly and gives deer a food source that shifts with the seasons.

Buck Forage Chicory is the most consistent producer in my plots. Deer hit it from spring all the way through fall, and it comes back stronger every year.

Chicory is the anchor of a strong nutrition plot. Add clover to maximize protein production, or pair with oats to carry your food source through fall and winter.
Five seasons of forage production. High protein. Deer-preferred. This is what dependable looks like.
